Graphic design surrounds us. Through my time studying at Mississippi College, I have learned to see that. Graphic design is in the billboards we drive past on the interstate; graphic design is in the album art of our favorite bands that we drive hours to see perform. Graphic design is in the logos of our favorite restaurants; graphic design is in our individualist expressions on social media, defining ourselves for the world to see and know exactly who we are. Graphic design is found in all that we do, and as a designer, I have learned to be a part of the grand narrative of what exactly is design. I have learned how to take ideas and shift, form, and convey vectors, lines, and shapes to convey emotions, expressions, statements, and beliefs. To arrive at the finish line, at the final design, is a glorious moment of saying that this design before me, this poster, this logo, this illustration, this communicates all that I want it to. This contains the essence, the mood, the words I want to speak in visual form. Graphic design surrounds us, truly, and I, a designer, get to play a part of the artist and the art tool in taking part of the art form that is constantly always surrounding us, graphic design.
