"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned and the flame shall not consume you."

Isaiah 43:2
Philosophy of Teaching

I believe that children in kindergarten all the way to twelfth grade benefit from the inclusion of art in a school setting. I want for my classroom to be an environment that not only exposes students to a knowledge of artistic techniques and art history, but also stimulates students critical thinking. My goal as an educator is to instill students with motivation to learn about art. My students will learn to observe, problem solve, create, and reflect by using basic knowledge of art principles and elements. Students will assess well—known works of art, their peer’s artwork, and their own art to help develop their artistic views. I want to create a healthy learning environment by having a range of instruction and teaching technique that reaches each student through their unique style of learning. It is important that each student has a place to grow in their own creative identity and feel included. Through the implementation of a student-centered approach to learning, students will help play an active role in their own learning process. Students’ unique needs and abilities will drive what they learn, how they learn, and how their learning is assessed. I will implement a variety of differing forms of assessment, such as group projects and class participation, that will help measure students’ comprehension of material. I believe that it is important to teach students art, but also to help create an atmosphere where they can grow their individual personality. As an art educator, I hope to prioritize students’ needs and positively impact my students lives, while helping them learn more about art education.

Artist Statement

I find that my artwork ranges greatly, from the mediums I use to the elements that influence it. The majority of my work gravitates towards a strong use of ceramics, due to the “hands-on” nature of the medium itself. The more I learn, the greater appreciation I have for different types of media.

My art is a reflection of an ever-changing society that surrounds me. I believe that art is continuously evolving and shaped by personal experience. Art is a way to express how I feel in a particular point in time and is subject to change as I am exposed to new ideas. Creating art is a way to capture emotion and convey personal thoughts to the society around us. Art is an outlet to creativity and self-expression, and I hope to share that with the world around me.
